Immunity Buildup Day 5...

The nurses and doctors said that treatment will not be an instant fix...it takes time.  As a family, we are feeling the weight of time.  Bill is the same today.  No real change other than he went into a deep sleep, which the nursing staff agreed was needed.  These medications have a tendency to cause interrupted sleep.  After a long nap, Bill was able to sit up in a chair and spend time with his mate, Debi.  She enjoyed the few hours of alertness.  It allowed her to pray for Bill and enforce how much she loves him...how much she is fighting for him too.

With respect to the infection, the infectious disease doctors believe that they have pinpointed an infection that is affecting the colon lining on one side.  They are going to continue to run tests, but it may come down to performing a routine colonoscopy, which would be routine if he did not have leukemia.  Our hearts are heavy as we hoped for better news and pray for his safety as procedures are performed.  We keep reminding ourselves that God is bigger than all of this... :)

All other family members are doing well, working and keeping updated with their dad's progress.  Jodi is spending time cleaning out Bill & Debi's basement.  She is hoping to have a December garage sale!  It sounds crazy (especially in Wyoming), but unfortunately, it is needed to prepare for Bill's "clean house" homecoming.  So, more info will follow soon!  Get ready for some deals!

One final note before turning in for the night.  A friend of Bill's has asked us to post information on his location and rules regarding gifts.

Here goes:  The address of the hospital is:  Poudre Valley Hospital;  1024 S. Lemay Ave.; Fort Collins, CO  80524  (Room 3009).  Due to his current state, plants are not allowed and the hospital restricts latex balloons.  The nursing staff has advised that cards and pictures are always welcome and the best gift of all is blood or platelet donations.

As always, thank you for tracking, goodnight everyone...

  1. Bill and all Family members - our hearts and prayers are with you. Read a great Bible quote and it so applies to what you are going through: "i can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!" phil. 4:13!!! Be strong Bill and when you don't think you can anymore, draw on the strength of all who are there with you, around you, thinking of you, and praying for you.

  2. Dear Coach Bill and the Hixenbaugh Family- I am not going to lie, after hearing the news about Bill, the Dodd Family was very sad. Our 12 year old son, Taylor, loves baseball and thinks the world of Bill. This past year, Bill spent a lot of time working with Taylor on his hitting, pitching, throwing and fielding. Taylor benefited so much from Bill’s instruction and time Bill spent with him. Please let Bill know we are rooting for him - there is so much more Taylor and the boys Bill was training need and want to learn from him. We are praying for Bill.
